What is Computer Science and Engineering?

It is the study from fundamentals to applications of information science and technology that support the core of modern society.

• Information science and technology is used everywhere in modern society, including the Internet, smartphones, consumer electronics, self-driving cars and artificial intelligence technologies.
• At Department / Course of Computer Science and Engineering, students learn from basic software and hardware technologies to applied technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer graphics, software engineering, computer networks, and sensory information engineering.
• The goal of the department / course is to nurture students to make full use of information science and technology, which supports the core of modern society, and to take on the challenge of creating the information society for the future.

Features of the department / course

We nurture students to play an active role as the core of advanced information society.

• We nurture information engineers with solid basic academic skills to cope with the rapid development of information science and technology, and with a wide range of applied development and design skills to contribute to the development of information society.
• Our education is based on the global standard curriculum (ACM/IEEE Computer Science Curriculum 2008).
• We offer courses for Project Based Learning (PBL), enabling students to acquire practical problem-solving and engineering design skills.

We support your life, career, or higher education with fine guidance in a small group.

• The number of students per faculty member ranges from 2 to 4, providing a generous education system.
• A school-year homeroom teacher system is in place to support students’ lives.

Students are supported to acquire information-related certifications.

• By participating in the Career House “Information System Management“, students receive assistance to take “Basic Information Technology Engineer Examination“, “Applied Information Technology Engineer Examination“, “Network Specialist Examination” and so on.

Teaching certificate for high schools is available.

• By completing the designated group of courses, students acquire a teaching certificate for high schools in “Mathematics” and “Information”.

• Located in the center of the historic city Kofu with easy access to central Tokyo.
• With lower cost of living than in urban areas and nature-rich yet convenient environment, students enjoy their fulfilling university life in Kofu.

Open Campus Information

Department / Course of Computer Science and Engineering holds Open Campus twice a year (in early August and in November or December).

• The first Open Campus (in early August) is the whole event of Faculty of Engineering.
• The second Open Campus (in November or December) is the unique event of Department / Course of Computer Science and Engineering.

Admission Policy

At Department / Course of Computer Science and Engineering, students acquire specialized knowledges in information sciences, mathematics and natural sciences to create an affluent advanced information society for the next generation, and to play an active role as the core of such society. For this reason, we are looking for people as following.

1. Those who have the basic academic skills in mathematics, physics, and English necessary to study information science and technology.
2. Those who are very curious about information science and technology and aspire to become information processing engineers and scientists with specialized knowledges and skills to play an active role globally in the future.
3. Those who think logically, have insight into various phenomena, and are flexible in their thinking.
