Interview for 2025 Research Students under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program (University Recommendation [Special Selection])
Overseas interviews are available for Master and PhD scholarship candidates for the “International education program for regional problem-solving professionals using applied AI technology” at the University of Yamanashi, supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan. This graduate education program is organized by world-renowned researchers in the field of applied AI technology, including IoT and data science domains.
Interview Schedule
Place & Date: Online (January 20th – 31st)
- Master Course Applicants:
- Presentation on research achievements and future research plan: 10 minutes
- Q&A: 15 minutes
- PhD Course Applicants:
- Presentation on research achievements and future research plan: 25 minutes
- Q&A: 25 minutes
- Enrollment: October 2025
- Application Deadline: All forms must be submitted via email by January 23, 2025.

Master Course
Number of scholarship awardees: 4
Enrollment: October 2025 (scholarship for the next two years)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Applicants, in principle, must be born on or after April 2, 1990
- GPA over 2.3 out of 3.0
- English proficiency: CEFR B2 or higher (e.g., TOEFL iBT 72+, IELTS 5.5+) or graduation from a bachelor’s course taught in English
- Experience or enthusiasm in Computer Science and Engineering
- Nationality: ASEAN countries
Required Documents:
- Application forms 1 & 2 (Application Form 1, Application Form 2)
- Diploma or certificate of Bachelor’s degree
- Academic transcripts of undergraduate studies
- Documents certifying academic achievements of the latest academic period (e.g., GPA, placement, specific ranking)
- Bachelor thesis abstract (attached to the application form)
- Photocopy of passport
- English test score record (dated after January 2023)
- Curriculum vitae
- Application form for the interview
- Two recommendation letters from your supervisor and the dean of your faculty (addressed to: President of University of Yamanashi, Kazuhiko NAKAMURA)

PhD course
Number of Scholarship Awardees: 4
Enrollment: October 2025 (scholarship for the next three years)
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or equivalent
- Applicants, in principle, must be born on or after April 2, 1990
